Support My Journey

I am participating in this Defeat Depression event to raise money for depression awareness and community mental health programs because it is a very important cause for me and my family!

My sisters and I lost our father to depression in our teenage years. It's important for us to try and help erase the stigma behind depression and mental illness and to get those in our communities the help they need to fight it.

Please pledge me and help make a difference. Together, with your support, we can reach our fundraising goal.

Where Your Donations Go

Donations received through the Defeat Depression campaign assist local community organizations who provide critical supports and services to individuals and families affected by depression, mood disorders and other mental illness. One in five Canadians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime, and the need for community services has never been greater. Community mental health organizations are struggling to keep up with demand. While mental illness reflects approximately 15% of the health care burden in Canada, only a small fraction of health care dollars are allocated to mental health. This directly impacts health services available in your community. We know that timely access to mental health care can make a difference between rapid recovery and return to daily living, or lifelong chronic illness.

This lack of funding is why your support makes a difference. The financial model of this campaign is structured to keep the majority of funds raised in local communities, with 75% of proceeds going directly to local services and 25% going to support the national campaign. A small portion is earmarked for administrative costs, with the majority going to developing and supplying resources and campaign materials.
